Mutations in components of this complex are responsible for several forms of muscular dystrophy; however, sarcospan-deficient mice do not develop a muscular dystrophy. Here hematoxylin and eosin staining of the quadriceps femoris of a sarcospan-deficient mouse demonstrates normal histological parameters.
