S-phase cells were apparent as a dense narrow band with bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) signals posterior to the morphogenetic furrow (MF) in the control eye imaginal disc (top), while BrdU was incorporated in the normally postmitotic cells posterior to the MF in the eye imaginal disc from a transgenic fly expressing DREF (bottom).
