PAGR1 Promotes Adipogenesis by Controlling Induction of C/EBPβ and C/EBPδ
The transcription factors C/EBPβ and C/EBPδ are transcriptionally induced soon after the treatment of preadipocytes with an adipogenic cocktail. In turn C/EBPβ and C/EBPδ promote the expression of the master adipocyte transcription factors peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and C/EBPα. However, the factors responsible for induction of C/EBPβ and C/EBPδ have remained incompletely understood. Lee et al. (e00209-20) show that the MLL3/MLL4/PTIP-associated protein PAGR1 cooperates with CREB and the glucocorticoid receptor to regulate the induction of C/EBPβ and C/EBPδ during the early phase of adipogenesis. This study presents an updated model in which components of the MLL3/MLL4 complex promote adipocyte differentiation by regulating the expression of distinct sets of transcription factors.
